Meet lovely Cricket!

**UPDATE – March 1st, 2024**

As you can see Cricket is handling her recovery like a pro!

We wanted to extend a HUGE thank you to everyone, near and far, who donated toward Cricket’s surgery. We were absolutely blown away by the people who came forward to help this beautiful girl get the care she deserved.

She has settled into recovery well and we all wish her a long and healthy life with her new family!

THANK YOU ALL from Cricket, her family and the staff and volunteers at TDHS!

**UPDATE – February 13th, 2024**

Thanks to the generosity of the public, we have raised and EXCEEDED the amount required for Cricket’s care!!

A total of $4,040 has been raised and all funds will go toward her surgery (happening tomorrow!) as well as her aftercare and further diagnostics to make sure she heals appropriately.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to everyone who donated toward her care – you are all truly heroes in Cricket’s journey to her fairy tale ending!

**UPDATE**

We want to extend a HUGE thank you to all who have donated so far to Cricket’s surgery fund.
To date you have all helped us raise $1,805!!
Her eye surgery has been complete and we have a surgery date booked for her cruciate repair on February 14th. Unfortunately, in order to follow through on that date, we still need to raise the remaining $1,195.
If you haven’t already, please scroll down to the bottom of this story to learn how you can donate to this amazing girl!

If you’re unable to donate at this time, Cricket would appreciate you sharing her story so we can get her as much help as possible!

We don’t know all of Cricket’s story but we do know she’s met some tough times.  And knowing she has not had the easiest of beginnings, we’re hoping with your help we can give her the happy ending she deserves.

Cricket’s story began when she was found abandoned and taken in by the Greater Sudbury Animal Shelter (“GSAS”).  Due to their limited resources, GSAS reached out to the Timmins and District Humane Society, because not only did Cricket need a home, she was in desperate need of entropion surgery (eye surgery to correct eyelids rolling inward and rubbing up against the eye) and we could provide such a surgery in house.

Only after Cricket arrived in our care and went into her foster home was it discovered she was also suffering from an old, untreated cruciate injury (a tear of the two ligaments found in the knee).  Diagnostics and consultation with specialists confirmed that the injury was causing her high levels of pain.  Due to this they recommended she undergo surgery to repair her knee, so she can lead a life free of pain and mobility issues.  Right now, her pain is managed with medication, but this is not a long-term solution for Cricket!

Unfortunately, an injury of this magnitude can only be fixed through surgery by a specialist located southern Ontario at an estimated cost of upward of $3,000.

“Nobody likes to see an animal suffering!  Our partnership with GSAS and other rescues is based on our mission – to help as many animals as possible get the care they need – by advocating for them.  By being their voice!” said TDHS executive director Lynn Michaud.

And right now, we are Cricket’s voice.  This sweet girl has a long and happy life ahead of her and she deserves her chance to experience it without pain.  However, without your support, we can’t make that happen!
